1. Names my hypothetical boy child will never be given: Shinnosuke (all kids by this name that I have ever known have been absolute terrors and when you call their name you sound like the mom on Crayon Shin-chan); Genki (your kid is saddled with a name that is either too descriptive or ironic).

2. Because my world is mostly made up of kids between the ages of 1 and 6, with most of my concentration fixed on the 1-2 year-olds in that scale, I tend to lose sight of the fact that the older kids are still really young kids.

3. I need to remember that I have essentially been raising kids from babyhood through toddler for about four years now, while most of the moms are doing it for the first time.

4. Should my hypothetical child ever ingest a desiccant, I will not bring them to school and tell the teachers "call me if she vomits."

5. Even if my hypothetical child is begging to go to school the day after they've been sick with a fever (no matter how cute they look waiting by the door in their pyjamas and shoes), if their temperature is 37.5 or over I will keep them at home for another day.

Got home today to find an Arashi FC mailing in my post box. Through the yellow envelope I could clearly see a ticket application info form, and I started to get all excited....

but no. Just saying that stupid Nino's got a stupid play up in stupid Tokyo until 8/11.

JE knows we're all waiting for the tour announcement, and now they're just fucking with us.

breaking news!

This weekend has been a failure for me as far as keeping in touch with stuff (my phone isn't working and won't work again until tomorrow, today my internet cut out for about seven hours...). So when Laura got a call from her company saying that the schools in her city (just a few stops down the line from my school) were canceled this week because of swine flu, I thought maybe I should mail my manager and find out if my schedule had changed.

And sure enough, school is canceled. No kids this week. But teachers have to report to work anyway.

I'll actually have prep time this week!

Monday: My conversational Japanese lesson. Told my teacher for the first time that I'm aiming for the 2kyuu test this July, and he said I should pass it (I think I will, as long as I get my kanji taken care of.... If not, I'll be retaking it in December).

Tuesday: My grammar Japanese lesson. I've been working through the 2kyuu grammar book for a while, and I think it's going pretty well. Etsuko assigned me some homework - I need to go to the library and see if they've got some of the books with old JLPT exams in them, so I can practice on the actual test without having to actually, you know, buy a book that you can only use a couple of times.

Wednesday: Laura, Dani, and I went to base yoshimoto! Now that I get off work earlier, as well as having a shorter commute, I'm able to see owarai again! This is very exciting for me. After the show we waited for the geinin to come out and start selling tickets for the next week.... even though none of us could make it. Instead, we talked to Sho-san from sakana DVD (we did hanami with him a couple years ago) because Laura wanted a picture of his dye job 'cause she wants to copy it. Then we said hi to Mizumoto-san (the crazy one from span!) and he insisted that today we were going to have a picture taken with both him and Makoto-san. So we waited around a bit and just before everyone was leaving he pulled his aikata over and told him to pose for a photo with us.

There's another group one and then one of Dani with span!-san up on my flickr.

Thursday: Laura and I went to see Weaver at BigCat! Weaver, the opening band at the concert we went to in Golden Week was playing with four other groups from Kobe. One of the cds we'd gotten from Weaver was a demo for this concert, with one song from each of the groups performing, and I've been listening to it a lot over the last week or so. So I was looking forward to seeing the other groups almost as much as Weaver. I ended up buying cds from 3/4 of the new groups. After the show we talked to Weaver a bit, and they all thanked us for coming and said they were really happy to see us there. We also got a photo with them (don't have a copy of that one yet, will have to bug Laura) and gave them our mail addresses.

Friday: I finally finished my book during my lunch break, and it's rather amazing how depressed it made me - after all, Sakamoto Ryoma's been dead for nearly 150 years now, and I've known for years that he'd been assassinated and all, but still. I was emo. So when Laura mailed me to say that Kobayashi-kun had ikinari mailed her about a concert his band was having in the evening I was more than willing to go. Which is how we ended up going to two indie concerts in two days. We spent a good bit of time talking to Kobayashi-kun and Takashi (one of the guitarists in the group) throughout the night. Exchanged mail addresses with Takashi. Once again there is photo evidence of the night, but Laura has it still. After the show we got dinner, and just before we ordered, the drummer from Weaver mailed each of us.

It's been a pretty good week. (^_^)

Tonight Laura and I went to see a show at base! Yay!

Earlier this week when we visited Mandarake for old JE goods, I found some old Kinki Kids/Chibi Maruko-chan stickers, and I bought them to give as a present to Makoto-san (he rather likes Maruko-chan).

Here's the lovely present (we put some purikura in it too):

The show was a lot of fun - span!-san and sakanaDVD-san (we did hanami with Sho-san years ago...) were really good, and some of the other groups are starting to grow on me.

Afterwards we went and bought tickets for the show next week from Mizumoto-san, and then since it hadn't worked last week we got in line to talk to Makoto-san. He was very cute and nice, and assured us that he remembers us (even though Mizumoto-san never seems to) and he agreed to take a picture with me.

Then he signed the tickets we bought, and we also got Mizumoto-san to sign them. He seemed rather satisfied that I'd been over to talk to "Mako-chan" finally.

And yes, span!-san is totally scary. [nods seriously]

Golden Week! Golden Week! Goooooooooooooooooooolden Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!

It's almost over now (tomorrow's the last day (T_T)) but I've been off work since last Wednesday. Lots of fun stuff's been going on, which I'll try and sum up without making it sound boring in handy bullet post! form!

Wednesday
- Didn't do all that much in the morning/afternoon.
- Took purikura with Laura.
- Ran into a bunch of base geinin, including both Makoto-san and Mizumoto-san from span!, selling tickets for a show the following week.
- Which we bought, despite Mizumoto-san having the long-term memory of a goldfish and/or worse eyesight than Ohno.
- I took a photo of Laura with Mizumoto-san, though I was nervous and my hands were shaking, so we had to take it again.
- Yes, I am scared of span!-san. Shut up.

Thursday
- Spent most of the morning at the post office, sending money to various places.
- As well as some packages, so if I've promised you mail recently, you just might be in luck!
- In the evening Emilie came down from Tokyo to spend time visiting with us!

Friday
- More time at the post office!
- Then I hung out with Emilie while she worked in Laura's apartment.
- Dinner! And ice cream!
- Sarah came down from Tokyo to join us on vacation in the evening, and we hung out talking for quite a long time.

Saturday
- About a week ago I'd ordered tickets for a multi-group concert, thinking the concert was happening in September. Then I realized..... it was happening on Saturday instead. Oops.
- But I managed to drag Laura, Emilie, and Sarah along with me anyway.
- So we went to see Nico Touches the Walls, Going Under Ground, and flumpool with a group from Kobe called WEAVER opening.
- Show was GREAT.
- Afterward we got in line for goods, where WEAVER was signing copies of their indie cds, and Nico was shaking hands with everyone who bought their goods.
- Got in line for WEAVER cds, partly 'cause I didn't really like the Nico t-shirt designs, partly 'cause the line for the was out the door and around the lobby outside.
- WEAVER signed stuff for us, and flipped out when we spoke to them in Japanese. And again when we bought tickets for their next show. They also said that carrying my train pass around attached to my bag didn't suit me. Strange boys.
- I also reached over the line barricade and bought tickets for Nico's next show, which surprised them. But they totally sold them to us, and now they know that we'll be in the crowd next month!
- After the show we went and did karaoke for three hours! And purikura!
- Then we went and talked until forever.
- And watched the third episode of The Quiz Show! Where I proceeded to flip out about Kimi-kun being HOT when he's evil.

Sunday
- Slept late (you would too, if you'd been awake talking until 4am)!
- Went with Sarah, Emilie, and Laura out to Amemura for food and a trip to the JShop for ticket files (I didn't get any, as they didn't have any new designs... and it is forbidden that I reuse the same design).
- We all met up with Alyson, and then we wandered over to Mandarake and looked at their old Johnny's goods.
- Once again we stayed up until about 5am talking about all sorts of things and watching some owarai dvds.

Monday
- Slept late again! My sleep schedule is never going to recover.
- Got some food at an izakaya before seeing Emilie and Sarah off at the train station as they went back to Tokyo. (T_T) Come back again!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Got ice cream at a restaurant while Alyson got food (she'd just gotten off work).
- Then we walked over to another restaurant and got more ice cream.
- Managed to go to sleep before it got light outside again! Yay!

And that pretty much brings us up to date!

Opened up an account as [personal profile] kamonohashi on dreamwidth.

This doesn't mean I'm leaving LJ, necessarily. I'm curious how dreamwidth is going to work, and I figure the best way to tell is to try it myself.

also, thanks nick (^_^)
